Whether you're renting, buying or letting holiday rentals in Midlothian West, Edinburgh, here's what to look out for.
If you're buying, a survey is worth the cost even on a property that looks move-in ready - problems that aren't visible on a casual viewing can be expensive to fix once you own the place. If you're renting, read the inventory carefully and photograph the property's condition on move-in day.
- For rentals, ask which deposit protection scheme will be used and get it in writing.
- Confirm the council tax band and who's responsible for which bills before signing anything.
- Read the tenancy agreement or contract fully - don't rely on a verbal summary from the landlord or agent.
- Be cautious of listings priced noticeably below similar properties nearby - it's a common scam pattern.
